The Monarch of the Glen Pocket Square
Sir Edwin Landseer 1802-1873, The Monarch of the Glen, 1851
- 100% Silk
- Hand Rolled
- Designed and Printed in Britain
- 42cm x 42cm
The Monarch of the Glen was originally commissioned as one of 3 works to hang in the Palace of Westminster in London, and quickly became a very popular design. Representing a red deer stag, the work encapsulates the grandeur and majesty of Scotland’s highlands and wildlife. Showing 12 points on the antlers, this stag is in fact a "royal" stag, not a "monarch" which requires 16 points. The Monarch of the Glen shows the stag in command of its environment which was unusual for artwork of the time, often depicting animals being pursued by hunters.
