The Death of Major Peirson Pocket Square

The Death of Major Peirson, 6th January 1781, John Singleton Copley, 1783, © Tate, London

  • 100% Silk
  • Hand Rolled
  • Designed and Printed in Britain
  • 42cm x 42cm

On this pocket square we’ve used a large oil painting by American artist John Singleton Copley that depicts the death of Major Francis Peirson at the Battle of Jersey on 6th January 1781. Major Peirson led an attack against the French troops, during which he was killed by a French sniper, although Copley increased the drama of the event by making the moment of Peirson's death coincide with the British victory over the French, rather than earlier in the battle. More details about the artist and painting can be seen below.

The wonderful thing about the painting is it works perfectly on a pocket square and produces a number of different effects when folded differently. We particularly like the puff and four point folds, which you can see in our guide on how to fold a pocket square.
